Federal Financial Aid - Student Loans

Professional Hypnotherapy Certification Program

Federal Financial AidBecause of its accreditation, HMI is approved for its students to be eligible to apply for financial aid. Applying for student loans is a relatively simple process, one that our Financial Aid Director will guide you through.

The majority of our students qualify for some type of financial aid and our Financial Aid Director will be happy to determine what programs are available to you. Although each student loan is different, student loans can often defer all costs of tuition and materials up to six months after graduation. This means that some students don't make their first monthly payment until eighteen months form the day they start their training! This allows the student six months to start building their clientele and income during internship plus an additional six months to build clientele and income after graduation before they make the first low monthly payment on their student loan.

Determining Eligibility

Federal financial aid has undergone many changes in the past few years with many qualifying procedures being modified. No one can predict in advance which federal grant or loan program each student may qualify to take advantage of. Many students tend to assume they are not eligible to receive federal grants or loans because of their income. The fact is, there are a wide variety of factors that determine the student's eligibility and there are some financial aid programs in which income is not a factor.

To assist students in determining which federal financial aid programs they may be eligible to take advantage of, HMI employs a full-time certified Financial Aid Officer. The Financial Aid Officer assists students in completing the financial aid applications and then enters the information into HI's computer network which contains a financial aid eligibility program. Within an initial one hour appointment, the Financial Aid Officer will be able to tell the student which programs they are eligible to take advantage of and how they work.

The Financial Aid Officer helps to determine which of the programs the student is eligible for, which is the best to take advantage of, and exactly what his/her responsibilities would be for each program. A financial aid package is then proposed. These packages typically consist of a combination of different programs. The ACCET Directory Addendum lists the names of Title IV eligible programs, including program length in clock and/or credit hours, and tuition/fees charged. This Addendum is available upon request in the financial Aid office.

Once the application for financial aid is completed with the Financial Aid Officer, the student does not need to wait for the paperwork to be processed and returned to the school. The Financial Aid Officer merely marks the student's application as "complete" and returns it to the student center for confirmation of enrollment. After completion of just a one hour appointment with the Financial Aid Officer, the student can be ready to start classes.

During the initial tour of the college, students can meet with the Financial Aid Officer to determine their financial aid eligibility. Before a student can apply for financial aid they must first apply to the institution for enrollment. To apply for enrollment the student must fill out a Student Enrollment Application/Agreement and submit a registration fee of $100. The student is then scheduled an appointment with the Financial Aid Officer to meet and again fully discuss their options for financial aid and other tuition payment options.

After meeting with the Financial Aid Officer and determining what financial aid they are eligible for, the student then makes one of three decisions:

  1. They are comfortable with the financial aid package which the Financial Aid Officer was able to assemble for them. The student then chooses to go ahead and have the Financial Aid Officer help them complete the paperwork and actually apply for financial aid.
  2. They would like to enroll but would rather not take advantage of financial aid. Instead, the student chooses to enroll in each class separately by paying for all or selected classes in full and in advance.
  3. HMI provides a payment plan which will allow the student to break down the full tuition into manageable monthly installments. This option can also be utilized by a student who chooses financial aid to pay tuition amounts not covered by financial aid. For further details on the payment plan options, check with the Financial Aid Director during your scheduled appointment.

As with any loan, it is expected that students will pay balances owed in a timely manner whether it is a government loan or one made in conjunction with HMI's lender. In the case of any balances not covered by financial aid, students will be required to pay those amounts in full or sign a repayment contract. Failure to meet the contractual obligations will result in collection attempts by HMI or it agents to the extent permitted by law.

All loans are subject to reporting to credit profile agencies. Late as well as prompt payments may be reflected on a student's credit profile and affect future loans the student may apply for.
